Ezekiel: God who travels Chapter 3

Living Creatures and the Glory of the Lord

Ezekiel Chapter 1 reveals an awe-inspiring vision: the heavens were opened, and Ezekiel saw visions of God.

But there are two crucial details to note in this encounter: the Word of the Lord and the Hand of the Lord were upon Ezekiel.

Why the Word of the Lord?
Without God’s Word, Ezekiel would not have been able to stand before the Lord. It is through God’s spoken Word — His authority and mercy — that Ezekiel is empowered to behold what only a chosen person can see. Ezekiel may have heard God’s voice but not the full unveiled face of God.

Why the Hand of the Lord?
Without God’s protective hand, Ezekiel might have died immediately in the presence of divine glory. It was the very hand of God that preserved Ezekiel’s life, allowing him to survive the overwhelming presence. This divine hand ensured Ezekiel’s blessing and strength to record everything he was shown.

After these two divine acts—Word and Hand—Ezekiel describes the vision with words inspired by the Holy Spirit. The translations and writings we have today are carried through generations by the Spirit’s faithful guidance. I affirm that the Holy Spirit is the true guardian and revealer of God’s unchanging truth, even when human hands may falter.

In verse 4, Ezekiel describes a mighty windstorm coming from the north—an immense cloud flashing with lightning, surrounded by brilliant light. At its center, like glowing metal in fire, were four living creatures. Each looked like a man but had four faces and four wings, full of mystery and divine symbolism (read Ezekiel 1 for full details).

My Weakness is His Strength
For many nights, I have asked God to take this burden away from me. I pleaded that the stirring of the Holy Spirit not choose me. Yet, I am deeply moved, my strength fades, and still the Spirit lifts me each early morning at 3 a.m. to write. The words are many; my soul is filled with joy and delight but my body weak.

Today, I will be bold and accountable for every word I write. I am not worthy, but God makes me worthy, and so I write.

My prayer is that all who read this will be touched by God Himself. God reveals Himself on His own terms, choosing us first—not the other way around.

God searches the heart and reveals Himself to those He chooses. If you have not felt this yet, know that God is still near, waiting for you to open your heart. My prayer is that He will reveal Himself to you more deeply than I can express here.

God Chooses First
God’s revelation is not dependent on us choosing Him first. Rather, He chooses who will receive His presence, who will fellowship with Him, and who He has destined before time began.

Many may never experience what you have when God reveals Himself. Don’t be discouraged or question why others do not feel as you do. It is God’s divine knowledge of you that draws you near—not human effort.

The Holy Spirit in Ezekiel’s Vision
Returning to Ezekiel’s vision, many scholars and thinkers overlook the Spirit of the Lord—what believers recognize as the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit’s presence and guidance are essential but not easy to speak of. Uttering truths about the Spirit requires divine prayer and humility, for sin against the Spirit is grave.

Many have misinterpreted Ezekiel’s vision as describing alien beings aboard a spaceship hovering over the earth. This notion is pure deception, a lie as old as time, aiming to distract from the truth of God’s glory.

In truth, Ezekiel’s vision reveals the overwhelming majesty and holiness of God’s presence—beyond human imagination and far removed from any alien fantasy.

May we always seek the truth revealed by the Holy Spirit, and not be swayed by falsehoods that distort the nature of God.
