Ezekiel: God who travels Chapter 19
A King and a Prince
After describing a city reduced to ancient ruins, God turns His attention to a King and a prince of that very city—figures overthrown by divine judgment.
Ezekiel 28 stands out with its distinctive voice and vivid figurative language. Here, God speaks as though His audience already knows the scene, as if we are witnesses observing an eternal drama unfolding from the throne of the Ancient of Days.
The term Ancient of Days is a powerful title for God, emphasizing His eternal nature—existing before time itself began. I must admit, reading this chapter is no easy task. I often find myself pausing, reflecting deeply, then returning to the text with renewed focus.
The words Ezekiel records, coming directly from the Lord, challenge the human mind. The imagery is unsettling—introducing angelic beings like the guardians, the Cherubim, and describing a being once perfect and beautiful. This one knew the heavenly realms intimately, walked in the garden of God, and stood on the holy mountain of the Lord. Yet, this glorious figure fell from grace, consumed by pride, and was cast down from the heavenly heights.
As I read, a heavy sorrow settled over me. The pain of this fall seemed to echo the root cause of all human suffering—the original breach that brought sin, guilt, and sorrow into the world. This chapter stirred something deep within my heart. I hesitated, wondering: Do I need to write about this? How can I explain such a profound mystery, that God expelled this being even before humanity was brought into the struggle of sin and death?
I wrestled with myself—should I dig deeper into this identity? Should I explore what the Holy Spirit urges me to share?
Despite my resistance, God’s will overcame me tonight. I will write fully, as God unfolds this secret identity—of a being who moves among men, stealing time and leading many to ruin.
This is the core of the matter. You may judge, but I will not be condemned for sharing what the Spirit reveals.
